Have a Sneak Peek at What’s Inside My Head! 👀
Visual Design & Experimentation

What the Whale?
This drawing began as a photo I took outside the amphitheater at UC San Diego. The structure has always looked like the head of a whale to me, so I brought the photo into Procreate and added my own illustrations to bring that idea to life.

The WillowMind Fairy
This fairy was created for an animated video for WillowMind, one of my projects. Since the app's theme color is green and its name is inspired by nature, I designed her as a cute forest fairy with leaf-shaped hair.

Hidden Me
I was experimenting with ideas for a personal logo based on my name, U Lam Lou, when I came up with this doodle. It incorporates the letters of my name while somehow also resembling a person with glasses and long hair. Can you spot the letters?

The Cloud Dragon
I spotted this dragon-shaped cloud while at the beach, with the sun perfectly positioned in its mouth. I captured the moment and later illustrated the dragon I saw in Procreate.

AutoCAD Robot Model
I created this AutoCAD model based on Min, a physical robot built in our lab. The model was used in focus group evaluations with patients to help us explore how they perceived the robot and its design.

Under My Magnifier
A connotative poster based on my artist statement. I used large, twisted words to draw attention to the questions, while the answers are hidden in the tiny text, inviting viewers to look closer and notice the details.

Comfort Tone Logo
Comfort Tone’s name comes from “comfort zone,” so I wanted the logo to feel simple and rounded. I chose an eighth rest as the music symbol to represent a place where people who love singing can take a little break from school and everyday life.

T-shirt Logo
A T-shirt logo concept I designed for Comfort Tone, an a cappella group I co-founded during undergrad. We ultimately went with a different design, but this remained one of my favorite concepts.

Typography Poster Study
A poster study created with materials provided by my professor. I repeated and rotated an image of Beijing National Stadium to create a symmetrical form, then used an orange line through the center to emphasize the symmetry and divide the composition.

Cookie Connections Flyer
An event flyer I created for my college council. Since the event was close to White Valentine’s Day and involved decorating cookies, I used lots of pink and red with icing elements throughout the design to create a sweet and playful vibe.

Comfort Tone Spring Showcase Flyer
The first performance flyer I created for Comfort Tone, an a cappella group I co-founded. I used a film-roll theme to capture how much the group had grown and the memories we made together.

Where Sunlight Lands
A beautiful sunset I happened to capture at a beach in Malibu. The colors looked almost painted, even though this was how the moment came straight out of my camera.

The Exit
A dark tunnel I came across while hiking. I was drawn to the repetitive wooden structure leading toward the bright exit.

Beyond the Clouds
A huge cloud I spotted while out for a walk. It made me wonder what if it were a floating city, a cloud monster, or maybe even a maze in the sky?

The Sydney Harbour Bridge
A photo I captured while visiting the Sydney Harbour Bridge. I liked its curve against the clear blue sky.

The Fallen Rainbow
A little moment I captured on a gloomy day. I spotted a rainbow between the clouds that seemed to land on a building, instantly lighting up my day.
