ABOUT ME
Hello, I'm U Lam Lou 勞于藍
a UX researcher and designer who turns what I observe into inspiration. People can interact with and respond to the same thing differently. That’s why I look closely at their interactions, identify where friction happens, and notice what might be overlooked. I turn what I discover into new interactions and experiences, especially when I get to ask, “What if this worked differently?” Then I design it, test it, and learn from what happens.

Design • Computer Science • Human-Computer Interaction • Research
I earned my B.S. in Cognitive Science with a specialization in Design & Interaction and my M.S. in Computer Science at UC San Diego. It all started with a Design of Everyday Things course. I realized how much I enjoyed researching the little pain points people experience and designing solutions to address them. I found it especially fulfilling to see users appreciate how their insights turned into design decisions that delighted them. This led me to further pursue this path.
I currently work as a Research Assistant under Dr. Laurel Riek and Sandhya Jayaraman on human-robot interaction at the Healthcare Robotics Lab. I also work as a UX Designer at the Data-Driven Learning Lab, where I designed the end-to-end interface for the mobile app WillowMind.

Music • Anime • Food • Travel • Museum • Baseball
Music has been part of my life for years. I sing and play violin and piano. When I came to the U.S. to study, I really missed that musical side of my life. So, I joined the Chamber Orchestra and co-founded Comfort Tone, an a cappella group. I also arranged Uptown Girl from scratch for one of our performances and substantially adapted and rearranged Viva la Vida for the group!
I love traveling. Every time I’m somewhere new, museums and food are on my to-do list. I especially love seeing how different places present their art and culture. And of course, I always have room for more good food.
I’m a huge anime fan. I love everything from the stories to the colors and music. Anime has definitely influenced both my designs and the way I think, and somehow it even got me into baseball (shout-out to Daiya no Ace lol!). I’ve even started going to games after learning most of the rules through anime.
